I’m a physician-scientist and strategic innovation executive with deep experience in biopharma and healthtech. I’ve spent my career at the intersection of health, science, and emerging technology, driving data-informed, patient-centered strategies and helping organizations turn promising ideas into palpable outcomes.

My leadership roles have spanned biotech (Project Team Leader for Velusetrag at Theravance), healthtech (Chief Medical Officer at DNAnexus), pharma (VP–Distinguished R&D Fellow, Digital and Data at Takeda), and corporate venture (Senior Partner at Takeda Ventures, Inc.).  I apply strong pattern recognition and strategic judgment in complex, uncertain environments—helping teams focus on the signals that matter and act with confidence.

A widely recognized thought leader and communicator, I co-authored (with VC Lisa Suennen) Tech Tonics: Can Passionate Entrepreneurs Heal Healthcare With Technology? (2013), co-hosted (with Lisa) the "Tech Tonics podcast" (2015–2021), and have written extensively for the popular press about innovation in science and medicine. I contributed the "Health. Care." column to Forbes from 2011-2019, and now write the "Astounding HealthTech" column for the Timmerman Report. I regularly review books for The Wall Street Journal.

My current passion project is exploring agency as a foundational, often overlooked driver of health and human flourishing.
